Zoning By-Law Update
The Zoning By-Law is a regulatory document that implements the policies of the Official Plan and governs how land is used and developed in the Township. The by-law places properties in zone categories. Each category has land uses that are allowed, development standards for buildings and site-specific policies that guide the form and use of the land. Any new development must meet the rules of the Zoning By-Law.
The current Zoning By-Law has evolved over time through many amendments to reflect local planning and policy changes.
As the Township grows and adapts to changing community needs, a review of the Zoning By-Law ensures the by-law remains effective, clear and aligned with Council’s vision. The review provides an opportunity to modernize zoning regulation, address land use trends, remove irregularities and improve usability. This Zoning By-Law review will update the by-law to conform with Provincial legislation, including the Provincial Planning Statement (2024).
A public meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 18th, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Tay Valley Township Office located at 217 Harper Road, Perth, Ontario. The public meeting gives the public an opportunity to give formal comments on the proposed Zoning By-Law amendments.
If you are unable to attend the public meeting please email your comments to the Planner, Noelle Reeve at planner@tayvalleytwp.ca or submit written comments to the Township Office.
Personal information contained in written comments, collected pursuant to the Planning Act, will be used for the purposes of that Act and will be part of the public record. Questions should be directed to the Freedom of Information and Privacy Coordinator at the institution conducting the procedures under the Act.
