Emergency Services

Tay Valley Township has planned to help residents deal with foreseeable emergencies. Between our Emergency Preparedness Plan and our Fire and Police Services, we strive to ensure any emergency is quickly resolved alongside the help of the community. Help us keep our community safe by knowing the services we offer and what you can do to be prepared. Being prepared for any emergency is as simple as planning ahead and knowing what to do or who to call in the case of an emergency.

The Lanark County Ambulance Service is the sole ambulance service provider within the County of Lanark. It provides 24-hour pre-hospital emergency or non-emergency care as well as transportation to and between hospitals for individuals experiencing injury or illness.

Ambulance Services

It is important that a fire truck or ambulance is able to use your laneway when responding to an emergency call at your house or cottage. In Tay Valley Township, it is the owner of the building that is responsible for access, from the traveled portion of the road to the building. An access that is not suitable for a large pumper truck or ambulance may impact the effectiveness of emergency personnel responding to an emergency call at that location. A minimum clearance width of 16 feet is suggested (including road width), plus a clearance of 20 feet overhead is recommended (as a guideline only). Any turns or corners must be wide enough to allow the trucks to drive directly to the residence. It is also important to ensure that your blue and white civic address sign is clearly visible. Laneways should be maintained, snowplowed and sanded as needed.

Report spills of pollutants (e.g. oil, chemicals) to the Spills Action Centre by calling 416-325-3000, 1-800-268-6060 (toll-free), or 1-855-889-5775 (TTY) or by visiting the website at the following link https://www.ontario.ca/page/report-spill
