Legacy Cottages

Lanark County is home to a multitude of lakes, rivers and creeks. In 2017, contributions made by the cottage community were recognized. Through the Legacy Cottage Program, Tay Valley honoured residents of Lanark County whose cottage had been in the same family for at least 50 years. This designation imposes no legal restrictions. A Legacy Cottage designation is commemorative only.

Cottage families responded enthusiastically to this program! Tay Valley Township is happy to recognize the 247 families that have had their Lanark County cottage in the family for at least 50 years. The oldest cottage continuously in the same family was 165 years!

Legacy Cottage Plaque

• The Legacy Cottage plaque, designed by Tay Valley graphic artist Annie Dalton, features an etching courtesy of Tay Valley artist, Franc van Oort (pictured below).
• Legacy Cottage plaques were presented at lake association annual meetings, Council meetings, and special events.
