History Scholarship

Recognizing the importance of understanding history in contemporary society.

The Tay Valley History Scholarship will be awarded every year to a student graduating from either the Perth and District Collegiate Institute or St. John Catholic High School who has been accepted into an apprenticeship, college or university program.

Application Process

The Tay Valley History Scholarship Committee, composed of citizens from Tay Valley Township and neighbouring municipalities, oversees the scholarship including the selection of a recipient each year.

Application forms are available at both the Perth & District Collegiate Institute and St. John High School in Perth.

The scholarship is awarded at the June commencement ceremony along with a copy of the legacy book At Home in Tay Valley. The value of the scholarship for the years 2025-2029 is $1,600. It will be indexed to inflation for the year 2030 and every five years thereafter.

Monies for the scholarship are derived from:

  • proceeds from sales of the legacy book At Home in Tay Valley; the people, places and events in the history of Tay Valley Township

  • donations by individuals, community groups and businesses (all donations of $20 or more are eligible to receive a charitable tax receipt)

  • proceeds from the sale of 200th Anniversary calendar of the Perth Military Settlement

  • income from the investment of the monies in the scholarship fund

As of September 2024, $72,600 resides in the scholarship fund, an amount that should permit the scholarship to continue in perpetuity.

We are pleased to partner with the Perth and District Community Foundation which is managing the scholarship funds on our behalf.
