Changes Coming to Tay Valley Township’s Glen Tay Waste Site to Meet Future Demand

Tay Valley Township is pleased to report that its Glen Tay Waste Site – The Township’s only active waste site and one of three operating depots - will soon see the waste collection and recycling depot relocated. The Township recently acquired a 78-acre parcel of land immediately adjacent to the western edge of the current site which is located at the junction of Harper and Norris roads.

"This is a major development for the Township, within the context of our 10-year Waste Management Master Plan," said Reeve Rob Rainer. "With the greater space now available for waste management operations, the Township will be able to relocate our recycling and re-use facilities, to the new land, while fully utilizing the waste disposal capacity of our existing waste site, alleviating the need to truck our waste to an outside waste site at much higher costs. We will also be able to significantly improve traffic flow and the efficiency and ease of waste management, including for recycling and for our popular Re-Use Centre."

A further bonus, Rainer says, is the Township now has an option for the future in relocating its public works vehicle fleet and operations currently stationed beside the Municipal Building, at 217 Harper Road.

The next step will involve issuing a request for proposal for the depot layout design at the new location, which will be issued later this fall. This process will include public consultation and updating the Ministry’s approvals for the site.
