Much to be Proud About in Tay Valley Township

Much has been accomplished over the past four years of the current 2022-2026 term of Council, now in our final two months of service. The Municipal Report Card the Township published for each of 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 presents many highlights. In the coming weeks I will showcase a select number of them, some of which received little to no publicity at the time.

In addition, today I wish to mention something else of which I am proud: that the eight members of Council have worked well together over the past four years, helping to ensure the smooth transaction of Township business. We voted unanimously on the vast majority of motions before us (many of which were routine). However, as a reflection of occasional disagreement, we also had a number of 7-1 votes, 6-2 votes, 5-3 votes, and even a few 4-4 votes. (In 4-4 votes, the motion on the table is defeated.)

And, while some matters generated lengthy discussion and debate, with strong views expressed, Council members have been consistently respectful of each other. I am thus grateful to, and proud of, my fellow Council members for their conduct toward each other. I wish to take this opportunity to thank my elected colleagues, Deputy Reeve Dobbie and councillors Baker, Hallam, Jordan, Kerr, Pierman, and Thomas. It has been a pleasure to work with you, and I look forward to continuing to do so up until the October 26 municipal election.
