SHORELINE DEMONSTRATION GARDEN

Tay
Valley
Township
is pleased to announce the creation of its “
Shoreline
Garden
” Demonstration Site in 2006 at the Tay Valley Township Office located at
217 Harper Road
just outside of
Perth
. The
Shoreline
Garden
was made through collaborative effort amongst many partners with the hope that
the public will use the site as both an educational tool and for enjoyment.
The
purpose of this project is to help educate and inform waterfront property owners
of what
Tay
Valley
considers good stewardship practices and enables them to gain ideas about what
they can do with their own shoreline in the Tay Valley Watershed.
The demonstration site can be used as a model of what shorelines of
rivers and lakes in our watershed should look like.
The new “
Shoreline
Garden
” will provide cottagers and year round residents with a first hand
information on which plants are best for their waterfront, how they may be used
and why they are so successful at keeping our watercourses clean and healthy.
What
is so critical about maintaining a healthy shoreline? A
healthy shoreline will protect and improve
water quality conditions and aquatic habitats.
It also contributes to
soil retention, and habitat provides opportunities for aquatic species, wildlife
and birds.
