PUBLIC WORKS SUPERINTENDENT  RETIRES AFTER 39+ YEARS OF SERVICE

 

 

 

 

 

 

At the Municipal Office Re-Opening Ceremonies long time Public Works Superintendent Howard Farrell was recognized for his 39+ years of service.  The photo above shows Howard being awarded a framed letter by Reeve Keith Kerr commemorating and thanking him for his dedication and contributions to our community.

Howard’s wife Judy, his son Adam and wife Katherine, daughter Lisa and several grandchildren were in attendance to add their congratulations and warm wishes to those of Council, Staff and community members to whom Howard is well known.

TAY VALLEY RECREATION COMMITTEE  MEMBERS RECEIVE VOLUNTEER AWARD!

Long standing committee members Jan Rawling and Connie Willows received an award from the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration commemorating their 10 years of volunteer service at a ceremony held in Ottawa on June 04th, 2010.  To read the full press release click HERE.

v      TAY VALLEY SEEKS WAR VETERAN INFORMATION FOR COMMEMORATIVE DISPLAY!

      Tay Valley is currently compiling a list of all war veterans, including those who have served in either World Wars, The Korean War and subsequent wars from the former townships of South Sherbrooke, North Burgess and Bathurst.  The Township will be placing a commemorative plague outside the newly renovated Municipal Office to honour residents who died serving their country.

v      128th MABERLY FAIR!

       Saturday, August 28th, 2010 marks the start of the annual Maberly Agricultural Fair.  This year's theme is "Bees".  Events include a parade leaving the fairgrounds at 10:15 am,  agricultural displays, exhibits and competitions, so bring your family and enjoy all the fair has to offer.

 

v      GIANT HOGWEED PLANT FOUND IN OTTAWA AREA!

       Media groups have been informing listeners of this invasive, toxic weed that has been found most recently in a park in Ottawa as contact with the sap from the plant can cause serious burns to the skin.  Contact with the eyes can cause temporary or permanent blindness.  To learn more visit www.ontarioweeds.com .

v      DO YOU HAVE PHOTOS OR DOCUMENTS OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF FORMER TOWNSHIP WARDS??

      The Perth Historical Society is developing a section on their website that presents Tay Valley's long and rich history.  However, they are in need of photos or documents about the very early years of our three founding townships.  We are asking all residents who have information or historical  items they would like to share to contact them at (613) 264-0094 or email deftconsult@storm.ca.  The Society website can be viewed at www.perthhs.org

 

 

v     POLICE ADVISE RESIDENTS TO BEWARE OF TELEPHONE FRAUD

v     MIDDLE RIDEAU SUBWATERSHED REPORT

      Live in the Middle Rideau area?  Interested in its environmental health?  The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) is pleased to present the Middle Rideau subwatershed Report 2009.  This information-loaded report is the first in a new series to be prepared on a regular basis, for each of the six subwatersheds (Middle Rideau River, Jock River, Tay River, Lower Rideau, Kemptville Creek, and Rideau Lakes) in the Rideau Valley Watershed.  To view the report visit www.rvca.ca 

 

v     REALIZE YOUR DREAM OF OWNING A HOME 

      The County of Lanark is participating in the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program (AHP).  The Homeownership component of the AHP provides five (5) per cent of home purchase price in down-payment assistance to low and moderate-income households to assist them in purchasing a home.

 

      Applicants must be renting in Lanark County, be at least 18 years old, have a combined household income below the maximum eligible income limit of $71,800 and have access to mortgage financing.  For further information and to find out if you qualify for the program please click HERE.

v     FIRE BAN OFF

      The Drummond North Elmsley Tay Valley Fire Service would like to advise all residents that the ban on OPEN AIR BURNING has been lifted.  Fire bans may be extended or cancelled depending on Spring Conditions so check with the fire station at (613) 267-2596 or the municipal office (613) 267-5353 before your burn!

       Reminder:  All open air burning requires a fire permit.  Permits may be obtained free of charge at the Township Office during regular business hours (Mon.-Fri., 8:30 am to 4:30 pm)
